WHAT TYPE OF EYEGLASSES ARE BEST FOR ME?
Just as it is important to choose the right tool for any job, the type of eyeglasses you wear should be designed to fit your idividual visual needs. In today's varied and changing world we find many times more than a single pair of eyeglasses may be necessary to give you the highest level of visual performance throughout your day. Let us look at various eyeglass options we have and see how each may meet your individual needs.
Lens Types
Single Vision--
This lens has a single power throughout. It generally is best for those under 40 years of age who have not begun to loose their focusing ability associated with aging.
Lined Bifocal--
This lens type has two separate power zones separated by a line. The top portion is for distance vision, and the bottom is for near vision. This lens is generally used for those who are losing focusing ability associated with aging. It sometimes is used to help even younger persons with their focusing.
Trifocal--
This lens type has three separate power zones separated by lines. It is generally used for those in their late forties and following who need to see clearly at distance, near, and intermediate distances (such as computers, grocery shelves, etc.).
No-Line Progressive--
This lens type provides patients, traditionally having needed bifocals or trifocals, with a seamless transition between these powers, thereby removing any lines in the lenses. Because it allows clear vision from distance all the way to near vision, it has become one of our most popular lens types.
PC Peekers--
This lens type is designed specifically to provide clear low stress vision when using a computer for any amount of time. It is slipped in behind your present eyeglasses and when used in combination with them allows you to clearly see your computer screen without having to hold your head up and back to use the bifocal area. This prevents your computer from being a "pain in the neck", both literally and figuratively.
Lens Materials
CR 39 Resin--
This light weight plastic resin lens material has a long proven track record and provides good optics combined with less expense.
Crown Glass--
This lens material providees a high level of scratch resistance and optical precision but is generally not as wearable as other materials due to its excessive weight.
Hi-Index Resin
This lens material has the same benefits as CR 39 Resin but adds the value of being much thinner and lighter weight. We highly recommend it for patients with moderate to high amounts of nearsigntedness or farsightedness.
Polycarbonate--
This lens material is also plastic and is the most highly impact resistant material avialable. We recommend it for those needing added protection from their eyeglasses.
Lens Options
Scratch Resistance--
This option dramatically increases a plastic lens's resistance to scratching, thereby increasing it's life span.
Ultra Violet Protection--
This option dramatically decreases the transmission of damaging ultraviolet light rays through your lenses thereby decreasing your risks for associated long term eye diseases.
Anti Reflection--
This option dramatically decreases reflections from both front and back lens surfaces. Patients characteristically report better night vision and better overall vision quality. It also improves the attractiveness of your eyeglasses.
Transition Lenses--
This option gives you a lens that will provide sun protection by darkening outside when exposed to sunlight. It then will lighten gradually when you return indoors to allow better vision under a less bright environment.
Magnetic Sunglass Clip-Ons
This option allows you to immediately choose between totally clear lenses for lower light environments or a dark sunglass for outdoor sunlight.
These are just some of the many options available at McRay Denton Vision Center. By understanding your individual visual needs we will be able to design your eyeglasses so as to provide the highest level of service and performance.
